ES Shrapnel’s Upper Canada Sketches


Who was ES Shrapnel?

Edward Scrope Shrapnel (1845 – 1920) was born in England, later immigrating to Canada, teaching at the Ontario Ladies’ College (Trafalgar Castle) before moving to British Columbia in the late 1880s.  He provided the illustrations for Thomas Conant’s Upper Canada Sketches (1898), the illustrations we are exploring in this virtual exhibit.
